Plain answers to the questions doctors and hospitals ask about short-term cover in India. No rates invented, no studies cited that do not exist.
Locum work is short-term medical cover, a night, a weekend, a week, worked by a doctor who is not on the hospital's permanent staff. In India it is arranged directly between the doctor and the hospital.
A doctor's registration number is checked against the State Medical Council that issued it and against the National Medical Commission's records. The register is public, and the check confirms the number is real, current, and belongs to the named doctor.
Five things: that the registration is current, that it covers the work, that the dates and rate are agreed in writing before the shift, who is clinically responsible, and how cancellation is handled.
